Possible Laptop Acquisitions
My son and his friend raided the local university surplus store this past summer and picked up several barebones laptops with the intention of fixing them up and selling them on eBay for a profit.
He's got a Latitude E7470 with a 6th gen i7 CPU that needs a new battery, SSD, RAM, and power brick. It has a pretty scratched-up case but the keyboard and track pad look like they've never been used. It also has three USB 3.0 ports, an SSD slot, a 3.5mm audio jack, HDMI port, mini display port, and an Ethernet jack. I told him I'd pay him $100 for it and buy the parts to get it working myself. He's been looking for ways to raise some quick cash so he's thinking it over.
I've missed having a personal laptop if only to be able to blog away from the same desk I work at all day. But also would come in handy for other situations like church meetings.
I'd probably run Pop!_OS on it unless I come across some urgent need to run Windows 10.
My mother has also been wanting to upgrade her laptop – an HP of some kind – so there's a possibility I'll get to keep her old one when I help her do that. So either way, I'll hopefully be getting a laptop sometime before the end of the year.
